– Three county elected officials, including a new sheriff, and Clerk of Court, took the oath of office in front of a standing room only crowd at the City of Bennettsville Municipal Courtroom Tuesday morning. Sheriff William Simon, Clerk of Court Bill Funderburk, and Coroner Tim Brown were sworn in by Circuit Court Judge Edward B. Cottingham.

– Downtown Bennettsville “is in better shape than you think,” was the observation of Retail Consultant Bob Gibbs after his first day in town as part of a town planning group who arrived Monday morning for a weeklong workshop to plan for the town’s revitalization.

– Four members of the Marlboro County Council took the oath of office at the start of the January 9 council meeting. Judge Carroll Gray administered the oath to Dan York, Toris Quick, Carl Ransom and O’Neal Hamilton.

– The new Marlboro County Detention Facility on Throop Street should be finished by this time next month.

– Kiwanis President Brenda Powers welcomed the Club’s newest member, J.S. Watson. “J.S. Watson is known throughout the county as someone who gives of himself. His singing talents are also well known. Watson will be a tribute to the Bennettsville Kiwanis Club and has been received with open arms,” Powers said.
