'2 Hours from Anywhere' summer concert series kicks off June 7
The City of Bennettsville will open its "2 Hours from Anywhere" summer concert series on June 4 with the band CornBread from Murrells Inlet.
The concert is from 6-9 p.m. at the Bennettsville Community Center.
Elisabeth McNiel, director of Tourism, Parks, and Recreation for the city of Bennettsville, said the group bills themselves as an Americana jam band.
Cornbread guitarist and vocalist Kelsey Hudgins is from Bennettsville.
"They have never performed in Bennettsville so this is sort of a homecoming concert for him," she said.
The music series will have six concerts through the end of August. Four performances will be at the community center from 6-9 p.m. and two will be at Lake Paul Wallace.
In the past, the summer concert series has featured mostly beach music bands.
"We are trying to do different genres to bring entertainment for all the citizens," McNiel said.
The name of the series comes from the saying that Bennettsville is about two hours from almost anywhere.
Bands for the series include:
--June 30: Paperwork at the 4th annual Fourth of July Fireworks show at Lake Paul Wallace. The concert will be from 6 to 9 p.m. with fireworks at 9:30.
--July 12: Wilder Road featuring Bennettsville’s Cam Stone
--July 26: A New Creation featuring Bennettsville’s Dennis Hardison
--Aug. 7: Blackwater Rhythm & Blues
--Aug. 25: Painted Man at Beach Blast at Lake Paul Wallace
"If they are well received, we will continue concerts year-round," she said.
The first five concerts are sponsored by the City of Bennettsville. All of these events are free to the public.
"It is family-friendly entertainment," she said. "We are excited about our new direction and possibilities for even bigger events in the future."
The final concert on Aug. 25 will be in conjunction with the Lake Paul Wallace Authority as part of Beach Blast.
Admission to the Beach Blast will be $10. There will be children's entertainment and games on the beach. People with boats will be able to bring them to watch the concerts.
Corporate sponsorships are still available for the "2 Hours from Anywhere " summer concert series.
