The city of Bennettsville will have a new council member and the voters of McColl could possibly have a runoff election for mayor.

A decision for the mayor’s seat will be determined during the certification of the votes at 10 a.m. Thursday at the Marlboro County Board of Voter Registration office. It could result in a runoff on Nov. 16.

The total number of registered Marlboro County voters participating in Tuesday’s election were 768 of 7,112.

In City Council District 1, the incumbent Sandy Donaldson and newcomer Wanda Weaver were both write-ins. Weaver won with 97 votes, while Donaldson had 51 votes.

In City Council District 3, incumbent Allen Taylor ran unopposed and received 30 votes.

Also running unopposed in City Council District 5 was incumbent Tyron Abraham with 53 votes.

McColl

In the race for mayor of McColl District 6, there was not a clear majority for the candidates.

A decision for the seat will be determined during the certification of the votes on Thursday at the Marlboro County Board of Voter Registration office. It could result in a runoff on Nov. 16.

In the contest for mayor, unofficial results show George Garner with 193 votes while Robert Outlaw had 183 votes and Gordon Jones had 100 votes.

In the council race, six seats were open. The top vote getters were incumbent Brian Blue, 363; Jody C. Stubbs, 336; incumbent RC Cummings, 317; incumbent Lynn Kubas, 313; Ray Grier, 310; and David Limbacher, 284.

Others in the council race were Willie Goins, 263; and Brenda Jones, 206.
